Cat travel safety
A universal checklist for using any airport relief area with a cat. The same rules apply at every airport, so they live in one place.
- 1
Always use harness + leash before opening the carrier
- 2
Close the room door fully before opening the carrier
- 3
Check for gaps under doors, ceiling tiles, fixtures
- 4
Place carrier on the floor as a safe retreat
- 5
Avoid outdoor or open-air areas (e.g. JFK Wooftop)
- 6
Bring a portable litter box — many cats won’t use turf
- 7
If policy is service-animals-only, relieve before security
